Oxjam is Oxfam’s local music festival, taking place in October with hundreds of events around the UK, all organised by people who know and love their local music scene.
In the run up to the big festival day, which in Bristol’s case is Saturday, October 22, there will be a plethora of fundrasing events, from film nights and quizzes, to intimate live music shows.
Folk, dance, classical, funk, jazz, whatever you’re into. The idea is that everyone has a good time, as well as raising funds for Oxfam’s vital work.
Local music, global impact.
What’s it all for?
Since the first festival in 2006, Oxjam has raised more than £1.5 million in total for Oxfam’s work. That’s enough to buy 13,000 emergency shelters; 60,000 goats or 900 classrooms.
Oxfam is a vibrant global movement of dedicated people fighting poverty. Together. From saving lives and developing projects that put poor people in charge of their lives and livelihoods, to campaigning for change that lasts.

History
The first Oxjam festival took place in October 2006. Since then almost 40,000 musicians have played to over 800,000 people at around 3,000 Oxjam events nationwide. These diverse local music events have ranged from the amazing multi venue one-wristband-gives -access-to-all Oxjam Takeovers, to a sponsored busk on top of Ben Nevis, and everything in between.
Celebrity supporters include Jarvis Cocker, Kaiser Chiefs, Hot Chip and Kasabian. Last October Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Editors, Roots Manuva and others performed intimate gigs in an Oxfam shop to launch the festival. Media and industry partners have included; MTV, Xfm, O2 Academies, Live Nation and Festival Republic.
However, at its heart Oxjam is a grassroots festival, created by a network of music lovers stretching from Penzance to Fort William. Oxjam is thousands of volunteers and hundreds of thousands of fans making music and fighting poverty in their local communities.
After five successful years, Oxjam is now the UK’s biggest festival line-up and 2011 is set to bigger and better than ever!
